Animation That's Out Of This World!

To The Way Back Machine!

Dreamworks has been working on updating a classic cartoon that I use to watch as a little tike. It doesn’t have the Mr. Peabody’s voice or Sherman’s curious attitude, and it looks like they have introduced a girl character to give it appeal to a wider audience. However, with the voice talents of Ty Burrell, Patrick Warburton, Mel Brooks, and Stanely Tucci, it might just have some serious funny moments. However, Ariel Winter who plays Penny, did not impress me at all as Robin in the The Dark knight Returns, but we will have to see how her performance works here. Directed by Rob Minkoff, who has the Lion King and Stuart little under his belt adds some serious clout to this production. And it’s pretty darn cute!

  1. It’s just ‘more’ and not only am I not interested, it’s a total insult to the original creation… which was a timeless classic. Hollywood and given up entertaining the even the faintest notion of coming up with original material. It’s grotesque.

    • You are correct on several things Ron. 1) It is a Classic, and from the trailer they really don’t capture the feel of the original. 2) No original material will come out of Hollywood until they feel financially secure to take a risk on an original movie. We have to look to the independent movie scene for that (great for indies because that is where the creativity is really thriving.) 3) I can appreciate that they are TRYING to bring these classic characters to a whole new audience. Because of that, it might drive more interest in the originals and expose this generation of children, who have been brought up on Japanese Anime type of cartoons, to classic American animation. We can only hope. To be honest, I think I would rather watch Avalanche Sharks. Thanks for Commenting, Hopefully we can get others to voice their opinion as well.
