Dark Earth

I’ve been waiting for this to hit the internet and I’m very excited to support the craftsmen and filmmakers behind this production.  I’ve been wanting a movie like this for a long time and some of the shots already look amazing!  I can honestly say that I have faith in the crew of  Peter Montgomery, Norman Yeend, Kent Burton, Nick Hilligoss, and Ron Cole.  Extremely talented animators and visual effects artists, all!  If anyone can pull off an entertaining visually stunning adventure sci- fi movie it is this amazing crew. Plus the added roll of Kevin Conner, director of some of my favorite films growing up, The Land That Time Forgot, The People That Time Forgot, Warlords of Atlantis, and At the Earths Core gives credibility ( and star power) that this project is for real and will move forward.  If you are a fan of “Dynamation”, stop motion animation, practical effects, and 80’s style visual effects movies (yes, like even Star Wars) then you are going to want to support this movie!

Dark Earth is Arriving!

Holy Crap! I can’t wait to see this!  I hope it gets a US Release.  I can not stress enough the importance of bringing back stop motion animation to adventure / fantasy / Sci fi Films.  There is something about them that is magical, and and as Ray Harryhausen always used to say “Dream like”, that we lose with CGI.

Godzilla Smashes The American Box Office!

Godzilla 2014

Godzilla 2014

Out performing what analyst had suspected, Godzilla 2014, is running away with this weekends box office, and well deserved because the movie is nothing short of awesome!  Being a fan of Kaiju movies from Godzilla to Gamera to Pacific Rim I can honestly say that the latest Godzilla movie is, if not the best, one of the best Kaiju movies ever made. With a reported budget of 160 million it looks like opening weekend will take in a whopping 93 million! This is what BoxOffice.com is reporting:

Opening Weekend: $93,205,000 [est.] |

Total Domestic Gross: $93,205,000 [est.] |

Worldwide Gross: $113,205,000 [est.]

I guess we can expect more Godzilla on the way!  I predict that we will have an announcement by the end of the month (if not the end of the week) that another Godzilla movie is on the way.  Excitement abounds!  I scream like a little girl at a Justin Bieber concert! Godzilla…..Ahhhhhhhh! (end of the Hanna Barbera Godzilla song).

At least I can hope for an appearance of Megalon and Jet Jaguar in the next movie. Yeah, not gonna happen, I’m sure.

Ray Harryhausen Documentary!

From 1986 a documentary about the Master of Stop motion animation “Aliens, Dragons, Monsters & Me“!
See the awesomeness of Ray Harryhausen!
Stare at the Amazing Ray Bradbury!
Shriek at the glory of stop motion animated creatures!

Oh the documentary gold from the 80’s!

Enjoy!

Life After Pi

With the current announcement that the studio that did the visual effects for the movie NOAH lost money on the contract and watching the following documentary about the state of the Visual Effects Industry I had to make a post. I’m outraged, upset, and just down right mad about what the movie industry is doing to the visual effects industry. I remember looking at issues of Starlog for hours just marveling at the visual effects shots and wanting to know how it was done and wanting to do that for a living. I’ve been working professionally in the animation industry for 15 years and, I can tell you, what I’m hearing about the visual effects industry is breaking my heart. As it is stated in the documentary, if something isn’t done there will be no more visual effects industry in the United States.

Please watch this in full! And support the people that make our blockbuster films special!

More Episodes of the Secret Space Base Podcast!

Wow! It’s taken me forever to get these episodes uploaded.  Battling with sinus infections suck!  Slowly my voice is coming back, so hopefully we will have some more episodes soon.  Episode Six is all Will talking to the crew of the Project Sword Moonbase Central Blog. Toys and Sci Fi Television and movies, all the way from England!  Enjoy!

Episode Seven is our rambling round up of 2013.  And boy do we ramble on.  I sound like I’m coming down from a meth amphetamine high and crashing bad! Seriously, this episode could be a drinking game you play with your friends, with how many times Will says “absolutely” and “excellent”, and how many times I say “awesome” and “um”.  You’ll be drunk in no time!  With that and the technical problems we were having should make this a rather interesting if not humorous episode.  Good books mentioned, and good fan boy conversation.

A Rankin Bass Celebration

Arthur Rankin Jr.

A couple of weeks ago Animator, producer, director Arthur Rankin Jr. passed away.  Rankin/Bass had a huge influence on my life as a child and hearing of his passing really got me down.  I hope he realized how excited I would get every Christmas to see the stop motion animated specials.  This Christmas my beautiful wife got me Rudolph, Santa Clause is Coming to Town and Frosty on Blue Ray.  And how could I ever forget the Tolkien animated specials  “Where there’s a whip, there’s a way!” still rings in my head from time to time.  But one of my Favorites to this day is the Toho Studios / Rankin Bass collaboration King Kong Escapes! In celebration of Rankin/Bass I present some video clips from his career.  Mr. Rankin, you brought joy and wonderment to so many children, your legacy will never be forgotten. Thank you for making Bumbles Bounce, and for making my childhood so much richer.
